With a chill in the breeze and the changing of seasons, we can almost taste autumn in the air! The fall season brings a welcome change of climate and with the cooler temperatures, it makes for the perfect time to get in those last minute outdoor activities before the real cold comes in.
Here are a few of our all-time favourite things to do in fall! How many have you done? Which ones will you plan on doing this fall? Whatever you do, we hope it’s fun and filled with lots of laughter and good times for the whole family!
Visit a Farm
Fall is one of the best times to visit a nearby farm for their fresh fall harvest. Look for ripe fruit such as apples and pears, as well as a huge variety of squash, root vegetables and herbs. Farms may also offer lots of fun activities for kids such as tractor rides and petting zoos.
Pumpkin Picking
Halloween falls right in the middle of the season on October 31st so this is a great time to go hunting for that perfect pumpkin to carve. While you’re out, you can also pick out small squash to use as decorations around the house. They are great for painting and will make a fun art project for you and the kids.
Afternoon Hikes
With the weather changing, it is a good time to get in those hikes before it gets too cold. Check out new forests or hiking trails and see the leaves change colour too! Your kids will appreciate the time in nature while looking at the beautiful flora and fauna of the season.
Making Autumn Treats
If you’re planning on spending some afternoons and weekends indoors, check out some new recipes that include spices and flavours reminiscent of fall! We love anything with cinnamon, apples, pumpkin and maple syrup. Nutmeg and butternut squash are also high up there on our fall flavours list! You can make yummy warm drinks to cookies and cupcakes. The possibilities are endless, like our tummies!
Corn Maze
If you can find a cornfield near you and a farm that facilitates this sort of fun activity, try getting lost in a corn maze! The tall stalks of corn are amazing to look at and walking a corn maze is a lot of fun! At the end of the maze, take some corn home with you for a tasty fall treat!
