How's The Weather?

Come see the BUZZ!

How's the weather today?

One of our daily routines at Busy Bee is asking about the weather. Children get to learn all about weather words such as: sunny, cloudy, rainy, snowy, windy and foggy. Getting children interested in the daily weather and climate sparks interest in our environment and helps children take notice of their surroundings.

Being in Shanghai, we are lucky to experience all different kinds of climates: from our hot and humid summers to our cold and (sometimes) snowy winters. We also get to experience the Plum Rain Season and mild spring and fall times, too!

There are many ways to teach children about the weather and what we should wear during different climates. Here are a few of our favourite activities. Feel free to try them at home too!

Activity #1: Weather Songs

Learning through singing is a great way for kids to learn about the weather. There are many fun weather songs for kids. We especially like, “Rain, Rain Go Away”.

Activity #2: Weather Wheel

Create a weather wheel with a spinner and ask your child how the weather is on a daily basis. This is a great activity to do together and something they will look forward to playing with every day.

Activity #3: Weather Calendar

Make a DIY weather calendar with different stickers or shapes to represent different weather words and place them on a weekly or month calendar. There are also some reusable felt calendars you can buy that are wonderful to use.

Activity #4: Dress-Up Dolls

Make cut-out paper dolls and different clothing items that can be put on the dolls to show what they should wear during different climates. You can also ask your child to dress the doll up every morning according to the weather. This helps children understand how to dress for the weather.

Activity #5: Weather Art

This is a fun art project you can do at home. Choose different weather words or symbols like sun, rain, snow, cloud, and make a canvas with the word or shape on it. Have your child paint or colour the word or shape of the weather element.

Learning about the weather has never been more fun! Enjoy these activities at home and help your child learn more about the wonderful weather we experience every day.

Come and see the buzz! Only at Busy Bee!

Have a BEE-utiful day!
